Legal Search & Management, Inc. will join the Fourth Annual
LAAM Job Fair on Saturday, April 17, 2004. Legal assistants can visit
the LSM booth from 8:00 am – 4:00 pm. Founder and President,
Linda S. Jevahirian, will be there to answer questions and talk about
legal assistant employment.
The paralegal profession seems to be playing tricks on everyone.
There is a constant and steady demand for paralegals, right? Unfortunately
this might not be the case for entry-level legal assistants. The
odds are if you follow the right process you’ll find a job.
Linda became an expert at finding paralegal jobs in the early eighties
when her own living depended on it. “What I learned was that
putting an organized process to the search really made a difference.
One day I just opened up the Michigan Bar Journal Directory and started
making phone calls. By the time I got to ‘Cunningham’ I
was employed.” The chance that your first job is going to jump
out of the want ads is not that great.
Seasoned paralegals have another cross to bear. There is stiff competition
for the top end jobs and it is sometimes difficult to switch gears
after earning year of seniority and privilege. In most cases positions
like these are found through recruiters, by word of mouth, or in
situations where lawyers change firms and take their paralegals with
them.
Ellen Brisson, Certified Personal Trainer, Forward
Focus Coaching will exhibit with Legal Search & Management. Ellen’s combined
paralegal experience and certification in personal coaching is a
unique approach for legal assistants interested in career strategy.
Your professional path depends on how you package your experience
with your desire. Working with a personal coach is a good first step
in making a change.
Linda and Ellen will also attend the special Friday night dinner
and participate in the discussion on Paralegal Regulation. Dan Ray,
J.D., Coordinator of the Legal assistant Studies Program at Eastern
Michigan University will lead the talk. His paper on regulation is
posted at the LAAM web site.
Interested participants can visit www.laamnet.org for additional
details and registration materials. The conference will take place
at the Eagle Resort in Ypsilanti on April 16 and 17, 2004.
